Event:

2-Day Film School

Saturday, September 20 and Sunday, September 21, 2008

Dov Simens graduated from Muhlenberg College in Pennsylvania in 1965 with a BA in Economics. After graduating, he spent 3 years in the Army as a 1st Lieutenant in the Special Forces. Upon returning back home, he opened a bookstore in the sleepy coastal town of Carmel on the Central Californian Coast.

In 1980, he sold the bookstore, took the cash and went to Hollywood with the dream of becoming a filmmaker. He chased the deal, calling agents, meeting studio heads, pitching development executives, schmoozing foreign buyers and Hollywood stars. Finally he put his money where his mouth was and made a 90 minute 35mm feature film that went on to win many festival awards.

Over the next five years, he held jobs from Production Manager to Line Producer, perfecting his knowledge of the filmmaking process (or, as Dov says, “Writing checks”) making movie after movie after movie…but for other companies.

In 1986, Dov was asked by UCLA to present a class on “How to Get High Quality on Low Budgets.”

And word got around.

Next USC hired him to teach and then NYU and within 2 years, Dov S-S Simens was Hollywood’s most sought-after film instructor.

In 1989, Dov took the 2-Day Film School course on the road to tremendous response and success, and now teaches the course 25 times a year around the world. From LA to NY to London, Paris, Sydney, Singapore, Toronto, Vancouver and all points in between, Dov S-S Simens’ 2-Day Film School is considered the greatest film school course around and why not?

“INSPIRATION…Why waste 4 years at a film school? I got Dov’s…Film School, shot ‘Reservoir Dogs’ [and] ‘Pulp Fiction’, and launched my career as a writer who controls his scripts.”
- QUENTIN TARANTINO

ABOUT 2-DAY FILM SCHOOL

“Over $8 billion”. Over the past decade, Dov Simens’ graduates have made films that have grossed more than $8 billion at the box office…And that’s just from one weekend of intense learning.

The movie industry is fiercely competitive and has been structured more around “who you know” rather than how much drive and talent you have. Simens’ 2-Day Film School evens the playing field by demystifying the process of shooting and producing a film, and then exposes the reality of the marketing and distribution process – all in two intense days of hard facts.

Quentin Tarantino, Robert Rodriguez, Guy Ritchie and Chris Nolan are just some of the filmmakers who based their first successes on the quality information they received from Dov S-S-Simens.

This is the premiere film school course of its kind. Dov S-S Simens’ 2-Day Film School condenses four years of film school theory and education into two days of essential and practical facts and information. It’s a no holds barred, rapid fire weekend designed for anyone from first-time filmmakers to industry professionals seeking a fresh perspective on the realities of the film business.

“I’ve produced and distributed over 400 films and have never known anyone who teaches filmmaking better than Dov.”
- ROGER CORMAN
