Crazy8s2019: Cinematographer Spotlight – Angelica Perez Anzures
BizBooks.net is pleased to support Crazy8s2019.
In this interview, we talked to Angelica Perez Anzures about being the cinematographer for this year’s Crazy8s film, Parabola.
________________________________
Can you start by telling us a little bit about you and the film you are involved with?
I am Angelica Perez Anzures, a Cinematographer born and raised in Mexico City now living in Canada. I had the honour to be a part of Parabola, a film about a Japanese single mother who struggles to reconcile with her dying Yakuza father after his recent release from prison. This film was directed by Lee Shorten, who I’ve had the pleasure to work with in the past.
As a cinematographer, what was the most memorable moment for you in the making of the film?
This film had many memorable moments, however the best one is when we arrived to our last location to shoot flashbacks that appear in the film. This was on day 3 and that day we had snow which is not very often in Vancouver and the snow just made everything so beautiful! We were shooting an exterior night and the snow falling looked amazing.
What would your advice be for other cinematographers considering Crazy8s?
Lots of prep. Do schematics and plan as far ahead as possible.
What’s the most important lesson you’ve learned in your career thus far?
Collaboration is key to a good film. This is teamwork. When everyone does their best you can definitely see it. Also, eat breakfast and have your coffee.
What books would be valuable for a cinematographer to have read before participating in Crazy8s?
Digital Cinematography by David Stump
Colour: The Professionals Guide by Karen Triedman
The Theater Lights by Jacques Loiseleux
What other projects are you working on and where can we find out more about you?
I am currently working on a Sci-fi drama called Mena, a techno dysmorphic tale. I have three more short films to shoot in a short term. The best way to find out more about me is through my website AngelicaLion.com and I post regularly on my Instagram @angelicalion
